What is Yoga?

Yoga is so much more than physical exercises!

The word Yoga means union, and specifically refers to the loving union between the soul and the Supreme Soul. So, Yoga is a process that helps a person come to a point of experiencing this loving union. Yoga wisdom explains that I, the self, am eternal and spiritual by nature, a spark of the Supreme Soul. I am not this temporary physical body or mind, and this ever-changing material world is not my permanent home. I am like a fish out of water.

We are all seeking a permanent source of shelter; of continual love, happiness and fulfillment, but just as a fish will not find its true shelter on land, because it inherently needs to be in union with water, I will not find my true shelter in the products of this material world, because I inherently need union with the Supreme. I, that which is eternal, can only find true shelter in the permanent, and the source of that permanency is the Supreme Soul.

Yoga has been practised on this planet since time immemorial, providing a practical method for people to experience an inner happiness, purpose and satisfaction that is not dependant on the goings on of the world around us.  It is non-sectarian and does not require a person to join any particular organisation, or give up any particular faith.  It is not a group sport, but rather a personal journey, and anyone, regardless of age, race, religion or any other demographic marker, can embark on this journey simply by adding Yoga practises into their daily life.
